Some royal fans have been left angered by the birthday message Kate Middleton and Prince William sent to Meghan Markle on her 41st birthday today, Thursday 4 August. The Cambridge family offered birthday praise to Meghan publicly on their social media account, as they posted a photo of the Duchess of Sussex in a cream dress with the message: ‘Wishing a happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!’ Meghan, who is married to William’s brother Prince Harry, dramatically exited the Royal Family alongside her husband in 2020, and the couple now live in California with their two children, son Archie, two, and daughter Lilibet, one.
Since removing themselves from the monarchy, tensions have remained between the estranged pair and the Windsors, and Royal fans have since expressed their fury at the Cambridge’s goodwill gesture following their birthday message.
One user deemed Meghan the “Duchess of Drama”, as another said she "really doesn't deserve birthday wishes". Others showed their agreement in the comments, as one tweeted: “I don’t recall the Sussexes wishing any member of the royal family a happy birthday.” Despite the criticism, many fans did also support William and Kate for their birthday message to Meghan, as they said they had “taken the high road” in congratulating the former Royal. “William and Catherine always take the high road.
Always choose to be graceful and classy. Incredible,” an impressed user responded. Another described the Royal pair as "truly kind, global leaders and they always take the high road”, while others mentioned the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge displaying “class” in their cordial post.
