KATE and Rio Ferdinand welcomed their first baby together last week, with the pair revealing they'd called their newborn son Cree in a Christmas Eve message to fans.

The quirky name caught their followers' attention, and it turns out that there is a very special meaning behind it. According to babynames.com, Cree is a name rooted in history and is of Native American origin.

Its direct meaning is "Tribe name", which is poignant as the little boy is the latest addition in 29-year-old Kate and 42-year-old Rio's brood.

The pair have a large blended family, with Kate stepmum to 14-year-old Lorenz, 12-year-old Tate, and nine-year-old Tia, who Rio shares with late wife Rebecca - and little Cree tying them all together.
