Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is the 45th and current president of the United States. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality. Trump was born and raised in the New York City borough of Queens, and received a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School. He took charge of his family's real-estate business in 1971, renamed it The Trump Organization, and expanded its operations from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan.
The company built or renovated skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. Trump later started various side ventures, mostly by licensing his name. He owned the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants from 1996 to 2015, and produced and hosted The Apprentice, a reality television show, from 2003 to 2015. Forbes estimates his net worth to be $3.1 billion.
Tim Walz, the twice elected governor of Minnesota, has been chosen by Vice President Kamala Harris as her running mate in the 2024 presidential election, the Associated Press and other media outlets reported this morning.
Walz, 60, comes from a state that Democrats are widely expected to win, but his folksy charm and non-Ivy League roots vaulted him to the top of the veepstakes in the past week.
He’s also been a choice of progressives in the party. Boosters of the former schoolteacher who served in the National Guard said he would help bolster the party’s standing among working class voters, as he grew up in rural Nebraska and later lived in a small Minnesota town.
Walz and Harris will appear together at a Philadelphia rally later today. CNN first reported on the choice of Walz. A former member of the House of Representatives who was first elected governor in 2018, Walz nevertheless did not have the same national profile as other VP contenders, including Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Sen.
