)The , who had previously opened up about not having sex with , made the admission via a comment on TikTok, writing, “2.5 years of celibacy and never been better tbh.” While at first this might look like a throwaway DGAF line, the post she was commenting on was actually addressing a pretty serious topic.

shows two recent billboards for Bumble, the dating app that previously required women to “make the first move” but has just changed its system.

With a female founder, Bumble often touts itself as being an app that prioritizes female users. The billboards cheekily advertise, “You know full well a vow of celibacy is not the answer,” which, yes, is not that serious.… But also.… The implication is icky. “Use our app because you need to have sex” is…not real.As the TikToker wrote, “Imagine pretending to be a Dating App FOR WOMEN and launching a million dollar ad campaign BLAMING WOMEN for a very normal reaction [to] men’s violence,” which I interpret to mean that some women choose not to have sex with men because it is inherently risky (see: incels, rapists, etc.), and that waiting to find a partner you trust can actually be a good thing, even if it means you don’t have sex that often.Obviously, no one’s forcing you to take a Bumble billboard seriously, but maybe a better message to send is, “HEY MEN, BE WORTHY OF US, DO BETTER AND THEN WE MIGHT SLEEP WITH YOU.”All of which is to say, when Julia Fox writes, “2.5 years of celibacy and never been better tbh,” she’s (I think) saying that she’s happy, healthy, safe, secure, fulfilled, and enjoying life not in spite of being single but as a direct result of not giving her energy to things (or in this case, men) that don’t serve her.
