Joshua Zirkzee is beginning to demonstrate to Manchester United icon Paul Scholes that he has what it takes to be the club's main striker following his two-goal performance against Everton.
The 23-year-old had previously been the target of harsh criticism from Scholes and other pundits after a three-month goal drought.
However, Zirkzee's brace in United's 4-0 thrashing of the Toffees not only secured new head coach Ruben Amorim's first Premier League win but also allowed the Dutchman to silence his doubters.
His transition to life at Old Trafford has been challenging since his £36.5m transfer from Bologna in the summer. After an impressive season in Serie A, Zirkzee was brought to Manchester by former boss Erik ten Hag and seemed a smart signing when he scored a late winner from off the bench on his Premier League debut in their 1-0 triumph over Fulham.
