Aberdeen are back in the running for Tranmere Rovers right-back Josh Dacres-Cogley as Jim Goodwin looks to beef up his defence.

The defender was a transfer target for the Dons last summer but the clubs were unable to agree a fee for the 26-year-old. Aberdeen then moved and signed Jayden Richardson from Nottingham Forest but Goodwin’s recruitment team have continued to watch Dacres-Cogley and he has continued to impress at Prenton Park.

They are also aware that Dacres-Cogley is out of contract in the summer and are ready to make their move. The Dons were willing to pay a significant six figure fee in the summer but now they could land him on a pre-contract or on a free transfer come the end of the season.

Aberdeen could open pre-contract talks at the turn of the year. Tranmere signed Dacres-Cogley from English Championship side Birmingham City last year and manager Micky Mellon is keen to extend his contract, while there is also other interest from south of the border.
