Jose Mourinho has suggested he was “surprised” by Gareth Bale’s decision to declare himself unavailable for Tottenham ’s FA Cup defeat to Everton.
Spurs were beaten 5-4 in a thrilling encounter at Goodison Park, with the Toffees ending Mourinho’s hopes of a domestic cup double.
Mourinho was without Bale, who has made little impact since sealing a sensational return from Real Madrid in the summer. The Wales international was one of the most high-profile signings during that window, but has managed just four goals in less than 800 minutes in all competitions.
The Spurs boss claimed it wasn’t a “clear and obvious injury” and his desire was to instead stay with the sports science team back in north London.
