Jordan North has opened up about the moment that he was rescued from the River Thames by the RNLI after a member of the public raised the alarm. The radio DJ had been on a run when he stepped from a pontoon into the water to help a struggling dog on Monday, 16 December.
Recalling the terrifying incident on his Capital Breakfast show, Jordan said: “A big thank you and a massive shout out to RNLI Chiswick who came and rescued me because I was getting a bit panicky.
I was getting a bit nervy as well because I thought my legs are going to go, I can't hold on much longer so they got there just in time. “The real heroes here are the RNLI who came out and got me, put a blanket round me.They're the heroes.” Thames Commander Gavin Simmons and crew Sid Blake, Tom Coe and Cameron Crawley were able to get Jordan, 34, the dog to safety just three minutes after the alarm was raised. The crew found the pair on a nearby float lift. “We are on call to help all those who find themselves in difficulty on the water 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, even our beloved pets!,” said Gavin. “While we’d always encourage people to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard instead of entering the water themselves, we’re happy that in this instance we were able to help Jordan and the dog safely back to dry land.” In a video shared online, the crew, who were out on an exercise, could be seen heading to the location to rescue the TV personality.
Once he was located, they were then able to help Jordan off of the float lift and onto the safety of their boat. The incident comes after Jordan was left gobsmacked live on air after a prank took an unexpected turn.
