Anna Tingley Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, who was set to appear virtually for an interview with Jon Stewart during “The Daily Show” live election special on Tuesday night, canceled 30 seconds before his segment.

Stewart announced that the politician, currently holding court in his home swing state of Pennsylvania, would no longer be joining him for their planned interview. “[Fetterman] was unable to join us,” Stewart announced after the show’s first commercial break. “But because we are a professional and venerated news show it’s not like I just have to sit here… with nobody to talk to or nothing to do just because somebody said 30 seconds before we were supposed to have him as a guest.” “It’s not happening,” he continued through nervous laughs.

Instead, Arizona’s Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs called in, where she reported that since the polls closed at 7:00 p.m., the state is just beginning to see the first results. “It’ll probably be a long night, probably long several days as we are counting results of the votes,” she told Stewart and viewers over a video call.

The 2024 election has proven to be one of the closest races in recent history, with polls heading to a nail-biter finish between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in key swing states.
