Frustrated boss Jamie McKim blasted his side’s shoddy defending as “unacceptable” after the club suffered their first league defeat of the season.Johnstone Burgh faced off against Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday, who arrived at Keanie Park boasting the only perfect WoSFL First Division record still intact.
Within two minutes of kick-off the in-form North Lanarkshire side were ahead, Ben Richford pouncing on a long throw to fire his side in front.Burgh reacted well, with Kieran Brophy continuing his hot streak in front of goal with a fine finish from inside the box to level things up.Ally Martin put Shotts back in front from the penalty spot, with Paul McGeogh stretching the visitors’ lead after capitalising on a goalkeeping error from another long ball forward.Burgh pulled it back to 3-2 before half-time when Brophy found space in the box to blast home. But despite creating several chances to level in the second half, Burgh were unable to rescue even a point as Shotts made it four wins from four.
Burgh manager McKim told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “It was a tough afternoon. Shotts were as we expected – direct and hard-working. “They pressed us really high from the off and put loads of balls into the box.“I thought the penalty against us was harsh, but the defending for all three goals simply wasn’t good enough.“I don’t mean any disrespect to Shotts.
They were excellent, well-organised and really determined throughout the game.“But to lose three goals at home within the first 30 minutes is criminal.
