Spain has emerged victorious! The Spanish team defeated England’s Lionesses to win the women’s soccer World Cup on Sunday (August 20) in Melbourne, Australia.
Spain won 1-0, thanks to a first half goal by Olga Carmona, despite England feeling like the favorites to win.
Spain won the World Cup despite leaving out 12 players who had complained about manager Jorge Vilda’s conduct.
They came back from a 4-0 defeat to Japan by beating Switzerland 5-1, before winning against the Netherlands and then Sweden.
