Daisy Allen taught herself to sing watching free online videos as her family struggled to pay for professional lessons. But her dedication has struck a cord with a certain charming man.

The gifted 13-year-old has been given a £1000 grant by the master of the shimmering guitar, Johnny Marr. The money from the former member of The Smiths and solo star will help pay for formal tuition and stage equipment.

Daisy has managed to carve out a reputation performing in pubs and at charity events in her home city of Salford, and hopes Johnny's gift through the Salford Foundation Trust will help her fulfil a dream of a performing career.

The Trust aims to help young people in the city achieve their potential and Daisy is the third young person that singer and songwriter Johnny has helped out with a grant.
