Artist Isaac Baruch, who has been a friend of Depp for nearly 40 years since they were teenagers, also found Amber Heard changing the locks on the home she shared with her then-husband.
He was giving evidence at day nine of Depp's libel hearing at London's High Court via videolink from Beverly Hills. Mr Baruch confirmed that he lives "rent free" in one of the actor's apartments and that he has borrowed $100,000 from him over a period of years.
He is yet to pay any of the money back but plans to. He says he got to know both Heard and her sister Whitney while living in the penthouse.
