Johnny Depp fans are threatening to boycott Fantastic Beasts 3 and have launched a petition for the actor to be brought back onto the film, following news he has been axed.

The actor, 52, announced that he was asked by Warner Bros to step down from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, after losing his libel trial against The Sun’s publishers News Group Newspapers (NGN).

Depp had taken NGN to court over an article referring to him as a ‘wife-beater’ that was published by The Sun in 2018. The high-profile trial had examined claims of domestic violence made by the star’s ex-wife Amber Heard, 34, against him, with Mr Justice Nichol ruling 12 of the 14 alleged incidents did occur.Depp’s lawyers now plan to appeal.
