Retail giant John Lewis is reportedly planning hundreds of job cuts, in a move that will see some branches permanently axed from the high street.
In a letter to staff, the chain's chairman, Sharon White told 80,000 partners at the company, which includes Waitrose, that its prized bonus will also likely be scrapped next year as the company struggles to ramp up sales.
It added that jobs and stores could be cut in the coming months partly because it has "too much space". "The reality is that we have too much store space for the way people want to shop now and we have shared this with our Partners," the company told Mirror Money. "As difficult as it is, it is highly unlikely we will reopen all our John Lewis stores.
