Joe Otterson TV Reporter The untitled “Bosch” spinoff focused on cold case detective Renee Ballard has cast John Carroll Lynch as a series regular, Variety has learned.
As previously announced, Maggie Q will star in the Amazon MGM Studios series as Ballard while Courtney Taylor is set to play Zamira Parker.
As with “Bosch,” the show is based on the work of author Michael Connelly. The official description states the show follows Ballard, “who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city.
Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.” Lynch will play Thomas Laffont, described as “a retired former police partner who comes back to help Ballard run the Cold Case Department.
