Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are teasing the work behind Avengers: Doomsday and how Robert Downey Jr. prepares for his new role in the MCU.

The Russo brothers are directing the next installment of Marvel’s Avengers and Downey is returning to the franchise, not as Iron Man, but as the Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom. “It’s a very intense process developing the character,” Joe Russo said in an interview on Entertainment Tonight. “He’s so immersed in it.

He is so dialed in.” Anthony Russo chimed in and said, “That’s the kind of artist he is. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for May 2027. Deadline reported in December that Chris Evans was set to return to the Marvel universe in a role to be determined.
