A recruitment drive is underway to hire an action-focused facilitator to help make “a real difference” in Girvan.National charity SURF– Scotland’s Regeneration Forum - has launched a recruitment process for a facilitator to support a new regeneration initiative in the coastal town, helping to turn local demand for improvement into action.Girvan is the latest place to join SURF’s ‘Alliance for Action’ programme, funded by the Scottish Government, which sees neighbourhoods up and down the country overcome the hurdles of economic challenges.The primary role of the part-time Girvan Facilitator, who will be based in the town and earn a £33,000 (pro rata) salary, will be to assist local community groups, and partners including South Ayrshire Council, in the development towards practical improvement.This will include providing support to local stakeholders for project planning, fundraising, development and implementation.This role will support action on the back of a series of community consultations in Girvan, including those that informed a 2021 Girvan Place Plan and an emerging Place-based Strategy for Girvan.The consultations looked at Girvan’s strengths - such as its location, rich heritage, and access to parks and nature - while noting improvements including upgrades to the town centre, doing more to attract and retain visitors, and providing both social and economic opportunities for young people.Derek Rankine, SURF policy manager, said a part-time SURF presence in the town “could make a real difference towards project delivery”.He said: “During our visits to Girvan, we heard that local people have been repeatedly asked for their views on how the town could best respond to its challenges and opportunities, and that now
