Job centre in Wythenshawe shut because of extreme heat

The Job Centre in Wythenshawe has been temporarily closed due to the ongoing heatwave. Temperatures could climb to 38C in Greater Manchester today, while forecasters predict the mercury will sizzle at possible highs of 41C in isolated areas.

The UK and much of our region remains under its first red extreme heat warning, issued by the Met Office. A notice on the entrance of the centre, which is based inside Wythenshawe Forum, cites the 'severe weather warning' as the reason for the closure.

It reads: "Due to severe weather warnings issued for Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July 2022, this office will not open on these dates.
