metro.co.ukJoaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara have welcomed a baby son named River, according to a close friend. The happy news was revealed on stage at the Zurich Film Festival by director Viktor Kossakovsky, who was promoting his new movie Gunda, on which Joaquin is an executive producer.
Apologising for the actor’s absence, Kossakovsky said: ‘He just got a baby, by the way, his name was… a beautiful son called River, so he cannot promote it [the film] now.’ The name is a beautiful tribute to Joaquin’s brother, Stand By Me actor River Phoenix, who tragically died at the age of 23 back in 1993.
Neither Rooney or Joaquin have confirmed the news publicly, and had previously refused to comment on the pregnancy as they keep their lives away from the.
