Jim Gillespie is reportedly OUT of the race to become Rangers' new chief executive. The St Mirren vice chairman was targeted by the Ibrox club in their search for a successor for James Bisgrove after his exit for the Middle East earlier in the summer.
Talks over a switch to Govan reached an advanced stage with Gillespie expected to make the move. However, the Daily Mail report that he will NOT take up the vacant position.Rangers chairman John Bennett will now go back to the drawing board as he continues his search for a replacement in the key position.
Bisgrove left for Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah. Speaking at the time, Bennett said: “I would like to thank James for the work he has done at the club over the last five years as commercial and marketing director, and latterly, as our CEO.“Our commercial revenues grew significantly under James’ leadership, while in the last year, he was an integral part of the off-field restructuring the club has implemented.
The executive team James helped shape has firmly established itself and I fully expect its momentum to be uninterrupted. We wish James every success with his new role.”Rangers return to action this weekend as they look to put their nightmare derby defeat to Celtic behind them when they travel to newly promoted Dundee United.
