Defoe has called it quits at Ibrox six months after being promoted to Steven Gerrard ’s backroom team as a player-coach. New manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s arrival spelled the end of that arrangement but Defoe has already clarified it was his decision to leave the coaches office and return full-time to the first-team dressing room as he opted to pile his focus back on to playing duties. And it was a lack of action that ultimately persuaded the former West Ham, Spurs and England poacher it was time to move on.

The 39-year-old insists there’s plenty of life left his old legs yet and is preparing to find a new club. But beyond that it appears Defoe has a straight choice between a return to coaching or a move into punditry having taken his first steps towards a TV career with Sky in recent weeks.Get all the latest Rangers news sent straight to your Inbox every day by signing up to our newsletter. We cover every morsel of information regarding your favourite club in the form of articles, videos and podcasts. The newsletter will arrive every day at 12pm, giving you a round up of the best stories we've covered that in the last 24 hours. To sign up, simply enter your email address into the link here. And if you aren't already, make sure you join the conversation over on our Rangers Facebook group and Record Sport Instagram.Former Hammers team-mate Ferdinand, now QPR director of football told Record Sport: “Jermain has fallen into that TV work really

Beth Phoenix hails Royal Rumble opponent The Miz as one of WWE's hardest-working stars
WWE’s most consistent and hard-working performers ever – says the colleague who’ll stand across the ring from him at Royal Rumble. Beth Phoenix, herself a WWE Hall of Famer, teams up with husband Edge to take on Miz and wife Maryse at the showpiece event on January 29th.The bout sets a remarkable scene given that not all that long ago, Miz was the only active in-ring performer of the foursome. He has pretty much worked week in, week out for WWE since his 2006 debut, with injuries rare and most other absences to down to film commitments.Given he’s cast in the role of an on-screen villain in the company, love from WWE fans has been rare for the 41-year-old.In his early years, he found that respect hard to come by behind the scenes, too, having moved into wrestling from reality television. Now, he’s one of their most established and accomplished stars – something Phoenix knows only too well.Speaking to Daily Star Online, the New Yorker – who ditched the commentary table for an active return to the ring at New Year – had plenty of good things to say about the man she’ll be facing come Rumble time. She explained: “I’ve known Mike [Miz] since his first day stepping in the ring, and Maryse, too.“The wrestling business – especially a couple of decades ago – we were a very close, tight-knit group and paying your dues was important.“Here you had someone coming in with fame and in the beginning, people were hesitant: ‘are you just seeking more fame, how much do you love this?’“Unfortunately, that put Mike on a path to be swimming upstream because, really, nothing could be further from the truth.

UFO expert claims Twitter won't verify him because he's a 'Trump supporter'
UFO expert has claimed that Twitter is refusing to verify him because he supports former US President Donald Trump.Scott Waring, of UFO Sightings Daily, made the claim on the social media platform yesterday.Mr Waring, who has 47.6k followers, tweeted: “Twitter is refusing to verify my account because I supported president Trump when he sent US military ships to protect us in Taiwan.“And when he exited WHO because of communist China and Ethiopia controls it, not allowing Taiwan to enter.“I will always support Taiwan.”Oddly, his only response to the tweet is someone telling him to “think bigger”, while tagging in the Nobel Peace Prize account. There is no way to know if Mr Waring's claim is true or not, as Twitter doesn't give a reason for rejection when using its application process for verification. The process itself allows you to choose what industry you're part of, before asking for identification – passport, household bill etc – and then it requests three links to prove you are who you say you are.Mr Waring's UFO Sightings Daily website is no longer online, which could explain why he was not verified. There are also much larger accounts with more followers that are without verification on the platform, too.Crypto expert Layah Heilpern has 185.5k, while author and writer Sara Gibbs has 54.4k – both of whom have been denied verification status by the platform recently.Earlier this month, Mr Waring claims he spotted a giant UFO “several times bigger” than the International Space Station. He claimed that it was “100 per cent proof” of aliens, and shared a picture of it on his now-offline website, dismissing any and all suggestions that it was a photo of the moon.He said: “It's not the moon.
Jeremy Clarkson's scathing attack on those against planning permission for new café
Jeremy Clarkson, 61, has big plans for his farm Diddly Squat, but sadly it seems the sleepy village of Chadlington has other ideas. The Grand Tour star has run into numerous issues from opposing villagers, most recently for his proposed farm café, that was scuppered by a planning subcommittee - but he's not giving up.Jeremy prides himself for playing outside the rules, and vowed he would continue to fight to diversify farming to help his fellow agricultural workers that are struggling due to rules set out by local governments. In his latest column for The Times, he launched a scathing attack on those who tried their hardest to get his case thrown out - and succeeded - but not for long. After he spent thousands turning an unused lambing barn into a small, wood 'n' sawdust café, Jeremy was perplexed when planning permission was refused, despite having the backing from numerous organisations, including the parish council, Thames Valley Police, Oxfordshire county council's transport division, West Oxfordshire district council's drainage division, their environmental health people and their business development department."Other farmers in the area pledged their support too, which isn't surprising as I'd be paying rather more than what they could get selling their pork and vegetables and chickens to the supermarkets," he joshed.Of course there was opposition, but the job looked a good'n until he received the bad news.He penned: "The fateful meeting where this happened was held in a puscoloured room at the headquarters of the West Oxfordshire district council, in Witney."Inside there was a lot of press, an angry rich couple from my local village and, facing the local civil servants and minute-takers, ten councillors from the
