Jeremy Clarkson wants people to email Housing Secretary Michael Gove with his ‘clever’ solution to the issue of insuring buildings with cladding, stating he ‘knows just how to fix it’.
Writing in the Times, the former Top Gear presenter explained that he owns a flat that has ‘safe’ cladding, and that he has a novel answer to the problem.
The 61-year-old revealed that the annual cost of insuring cladding has jumped ‘from £6,000 a year to a staggering £80,000.’He then explained how it would seem sensible to remove the cladding from the building – but there is no financial help from the government or developers because ‘everyone agrees the cladding we have isn’t dangerous.’ ‘We can’t afford to leave the cladding in place and we can’t afford to remove it,’ he wrote. ‘There’s a technical term for what we are.
And it’s “f***ed”.’So, what’s his solution? Carrying on his argument, Jeremy suggested that ‘if you have Micheal Gove’s email address, I strongly urge you sent it to him.
