The search for Jay Slater has taken a fresh twist after the former British police detective working on the teen's disappearance claimed he received "a significant new piece of information".Mark Williams-Thomas, 54, has been working with the Jay's family in a bid to track down the 19-year-old, who vanished from Masca, Tenerife, on the morning of June 17.Apprentice bricklayer Jay, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was last seen leaving a white-washed home, named Casa Abuela Tina, in Masca, at around 8am, having travelled back there with two men after a night out.That morning, he called Lucy Mae Law, 18, to say he had lost his bearings, had low battery on his phone, and had injured himself on a cactus.
He has not been seen since, sparking a huge search bid, with Jay's family and a number of volunteers heading to Tenerife from the UK.TV sleuth Williams-Thomas, who has investigated a number of high profile missing persons cases, gave an update on his progress on Friday morning.
He spoke about the latest development, which he has passed on to both the British and Spanish authorities, The Mirror reports.Williams-Thomas said: "We know now that Jay took certain actions while at the rental because he was clearly worried about his own safety.
This was shortly before he decided to leave."In the last few days I received a significant new piece of information which I shared with both the British and Spanish police.
