Jay Blades became “emotional” after working out how to say the word ‘cut’ while having a virtual tutoring session with his reading teacher.
The Repair Shop star, 51, left school without any qualifications, and later went on to be diagnosed with dyslexia. In a bid to learn to read, Jay has embarked on a six month-long journey with a charity named Read Easy, documenting his progress in the new BBC programme Jay Blades: Learning to Read at 51.The documentary aired on Wednesday 26 January and showed Jay become overcome with emotion after having a “lightbulb moment” with his tutor.
Jay was trying to work out which letter came in between ‘c’ and ‘t’, and was over the moon when he worked out it was ‘u’ to create the word ‘cut’.Thinking out loud as he tried to work it out, the 51 year old said the moment he realised it was ‘cut’: “Oh, you’re joking.
It’s ‘cut’, man! Come on.” After his tutor explained how and why he got the answer correct, Jay said: “Cor blimey, you got me all emotional there – Jesus Christ!” “This is mad you know,” he continued. “It’s quite like, ‘Woah!’ Like when you sound it out, it makes sense.
