Pilar Bardem, the mother of Javier Bardem and mother-in-law of Penelope Cruz, has sadly died at the age of 82.
The late actress’s children, Javier, Carlos and Monica, confirmed the news in a statement on social media. “We want to share the news that Pilar Bardem, our mother, our example, has passed away.
She left in peace, without suffering and surrounded by the love of her family,” the trio shared. Pilar was born in Seville in 1939 and appeared in dozens of films, television program and plays.
She has also won a Goya — the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars — for best supporting actress for her role in the 1995 film, Nobody Will Speak of US When We’re Dead.
