The 87-year-old actress was joined by her son Troy Garity, 51, while posing backstage at the show on Sunday (February 23) at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Jane was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the event and she gave a passionate speech urging Hollywood to use empathy while fighting back against Trump. “Make no mistake, empathy is not weak, or woke.

And by the way, woke just means that you give a damn about other people,” she said during her eight-minute speech. She added, “A whole lot of people are going to be really hurt by what is happening, what is coming our way.

And even if they are of different persuasion we need to call upon our empathy and listen with our hearts and welcome them into our tent.
