Jamie Foxx’s Nurse Said He Only Had a 5% Chance of Survival After Medical Emergency

Matt Minton mminton@variety.com Jamie Foxx is sharing more details about the near-fatal medical emergency that almost ended his life.

At the Golden Globes Red Carpet, Foxx told Marc Malkin, Variety’s Senior Culture & Events Editor, that his nurse in Atlanta coined him “a five-percenter,” meaning that less than 5% of people walk out alive with Foxx’s severe brain bleeding and stroke.

This isn’t the first time Foxx has publicly spoken about the 2023 incident: he was candid about his health during the Netflix comedy special “What Had Happened Was,” which was released this past December.

He spoke about how during the first 15 days of hospitalization, the doctors thought he was going to die. Foxx explained to Malkin how he thanked the nurse after she rolled up her sleeves, thinking it was because of his celebrity status.
