Ale Rae reckons Dujon Sterling can be Rangers’ ready-made replacement if James Tavernier calls it quits at Ibrox, writes Andy Newport at Murrayfield. Turkish outfit Trabzonspor are preparing to return with a second bid for Gers captain Tavernier after seeing their opening offer turfed out last week.
But Rae insists there’s no need for boss Philippe Clement to panic over the prospect of losing his free-scoring skipper as he hailed Sterling’s showing in yesterday’s pre-season defeat to Manchester United.
Tavernier missed the Murrayfield clash, supposedly with a knock.But utility man Sterling looked assured in his preferred right-back role as he deputised for his captain.
Rae said: "Dujon brings plenty of qualities. He came up against a quality Jadon Sancho today and he coped very well, defensively and offensively.
