James Corden is set to make his UK TV return after quitting The Late Late Show in a new series based on ‘a relationship drama but also a whodunit. ’The Gavin and Stacey actor, 43, announced last month that the last instalment of his American talk show would come to an end next year, as he plans to move back to the UK after spending nearly a decade in the US with his family.

After much speculation on his next UK project, with some fans convinced of a Gavin and Stacey reboot and others concerned about him appearing in Doctor Who, James will actually be starring in Jez Butterworth’s Mammals, which began filming last year.

The six-part comedy-drama series has dropped a first look at James as Jamie, and will also feature a star-studded cast including Oscar-nominated actress Sally Hawkins, Melia Kreiling, Colin Morgan, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Samuel Anderson.

Speaking about the upcoming series, two-time Olivier and Tony award-winning writer Jez said: ‘You’ll enjoy this if you enjoy James, Sally and my work. ‘It’s a relationship drama but also a whodunit. ’While plot details of the series are still firmly under wraps, Jez has previously shared that it’s about the challenges of marriage. ‘A good marriage is the most magical thing,’ he said. ‘In a world of eight billion, you’ve found the one who gets you, ignites your body and soul.
