Former The Only Way is Essex star James ‘Arg’ Argent has opened up about the reasons behind his recent relapse. Earlier this month, it emerged that the 34 year old, who has battled an alcohol and drugs addiction since being in the spotlight, had to be visited by paramedics at his home in Essex after a night of drinking.

Speaking to the panel of the ITV lunchtime show, including anchor Ruth Langsford, James explained: “It could be a number of things, but I do feel that I did start getting complacent.” Get exclusive celebrity stories and fabulous photoshoots straight to your inbox with OK!'s daily newsletter James continued: “If anything, what really went against me was that I was too confident and a bit too cocky.” “If you asked me a few months ago, I would have put my house on it that I would never have had a drink again, but that was the downfall.” Lifting the lid on what happened in the weeks leading up to his relapse, James explained he stopped attending meetings and was no longer doing regular counselling or therapy.

James continued: “I thought I was better and I got a bit too complacent and confident.” “You’ve got to remember that you don’t just reach out for help and go somewhere for a month, to rehab or something, and then you’re cured for life.” He continued: “It’s something that you have to work on for the rest of your life and I had to learn the hard way.” “Sometimes I like to help others and give advice, but then you need to practice what you preach.
