Gyllenhaall - who is going strong with his girlfriend of more than four years, Jeanne Cadieu - executive produces the series alongside David E Kelley and JJ Abrams.
The book was also turned into a 1990 movie starring Harrison Ford.It tells the story of a gruesome murder that throws the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney's office into disarray when one of its lawyers is suspected of committing the crime.
