Jail term for man who burst partner's lip with flurry of punches in her Lanarkshire home

A “short and disastrous” relationship ended when a man burst his girlfriend’s lip with a flurry of punches. Martin Munro, 35, was jailed for six months at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted assaulting the woman at her home in Merry Street, Motherwell, on May 23 last year. The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said the couple had been together for only a month and didn’t live together. He told the court: “[The woman] had been out and returned at 2am to find the accused inside her flat. “It’s not clear how he got in but there was damage to the door and this caused a heated argument. “The accused became very aggressive and punched his partner repeatedly on the head and face.
