A repeat offender has been jailed for 13 months after he was caught carrying a knife.Robert McKain, 27, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.He admitted being in possession of a Stanley blade in Owen Avenue, East Kilbride, on January 18.Alice Carey, prosecuting, said plain clothes police officers were on patrol around lunchtime.

He made no reply when charged.”Defence agent Ian Scott said his client has issues with drugs and was released from prison only in November last year.The solicitor stressed: “On this occasion there was no crime committed other than his possession of the knife.”Sheriff Linda Nicolson pointed out that McKain has convictions for possessing weapons and for assault involving a knife.He had asked that the case be continued so he could be assessed for a possible drug treatment and testing order.But the sheriff told him: “Given your record and the nature of the offence, there is no alternative to a custodial sentence.”The 13-month stretch was
