ITV Vera viewers are preparing to bid farewell to the beloved series after 14 years on screens but it seems many have already become deeply engrossed in a new drama.

This week will mark the end of an era for all those involved with the crime drama and the show's multitude of fans worldwide, as the much-loved series fronted by Brenda Blethyn, will release it's fourteenth and final season on Wednesday, January 1.Fans were left reeling from the announcement earlier this year that Vera would be ending, and were further disappointed when it was revealed that the last season would consist of only two episodes, the Chronicle Live reports. The second part of the show's two-hour conclusion, The Dark Wives, will air just 24 hours after the first episode titled Inside on New Year's Day.However, it seems fan have already filled the void left by Vera with ITV's latest crime series, North Shore, with viewers taking to social media to express their shock at the 'big twist' in the show that features a cast led by Liar and Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt.

Although Vera is firmly rooted in the UK, with each series set in various North East locations since 2011, North Shore is situated on the opposite side of the globe in Sydney Harbour.

Acclaimed actress Joanne Froggatt, also known for her role in ITV's Angela Black, takes centre stage in the story of a British and Australian detective duo.
