However, he was rejected from the career path after it was found out that he is colour blind. He then took on several jobs following his naval training and at age 26 he decided to attend the London-based Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
From this point his acting career grew and he began playing his iconic role of Barry in EastEnders in 1994, he had appeared in the show before playing a different role.
Before securing the role of Barry in the much-loved BBC soap, Shaun played a paramedic on the show in one episode earlier in 1994.
