Former Countdown star Carol Vorderman has taken to social media to praise real-life hero Alan Bates for his decision to reject an OBE.The ITV drama series, Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, is currently a hot topic as it shines a light on one of the UK's biggest miscarriages of justice - the British Post Office scandal.The series, which is currently airing on ITV, stars award-winning actor Toby Jones as Alan Bates.

He brings to life Alan's tireless fight against the Post Office on behalf of hundreds of wrongfully prosecuted and in some cases wrongly jailed subpostmasters and subpostmistresses.

Alan recently rejected becoming an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), as the person he and many others blame for the whole scandal, former Post Office boss Paula Vennells, still holds her own honour.

She became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2019 and still has the title today. Alan revealed his feelings about Paula Vennells still holding a CBE to the Mirror saying: "The first thing that sprang to my mind while reading the letter was Paula Vennells still had a CBE. "I felt so deeply insulted.
