Before the drama with Anthony Fox being murdered went down in the Dales, Cain and Ruby slept together just the once when Cain was struggling with Moira's cancer and Ruby was trying to cope with her estranged and abusive father staying in the village.
The infidelity was kept under wraps until Anthony revealed the truth to an already upset and irrational Caleb. Anthony told Caleb after the latter had dragged him to a secluded barn and, under the pressure of gunpoint, attempted to confront him about the abuse he had inflicted upon Ruby when she was younger.
Although Caleb was reeling after the admission, he wasn't sure whether to believe his father-in-law and questioned whether it was just a desperate tactic to get under his skin.
