When Laura Norton returned to Emmerdale after maternity leave, it’s fair to say she was a bit nervous about getting back to work.

She had done it once before in 2020 after having her son, Jesse. And now she’s back after having her daughter Ronnie in 2022, but leaving two babies at home while getting back on set felt different for Laura. “I started to wonder, ‘Can I walk and talk at the same time?

Can I act?’” she says. “I had such a long period of time off because I had a year and half off with Jesse, a year back, and then off again. “When I had my first couple of days back, I was constantly checking my phone just to see how the kids were.

But I’m slowly starting to go, ‘Everything’s fine.’ I’ve come home and they’re both very happy, well rested and well fed – so now I can be present and do a good job.” While Laura, 40, was at home looking after her children, who she shares with Emmerdale co-star Mark Jordon (Daz Spencer), her character Kerry Wyatt was away at sea. “Kerry’s been on a cruise ship working as a Cher impersonator,” explains Laura. “And she has been a naughty girl.
