Richard Franklin, known for his roles in ITV's Emmerdale and BBC's Doctor Who, has sadly passed away at the age of 87. He died peacefully in his sleep on Christmas Day.
Liam Rudden shared the sad news on behalf of Richard's family, he said "It is with great sadness, that the family of Richard Franklin have asked me to share news of his passing, early this morning.
Richard passed away peacefully in his sleep. Details of funeral arrangements will be shared here when announced. Sleep well Richard. #RIP." Richard was famous for playing Captain Mike Yates in Doctor Who from 1971 to 1974, before Jon Pertwee took over the role.
Even after leaving the show, Richard continued to write books based on the series. Fans have been sharing their tributes on social media, remembering Richard's contributions to both Doctor Who and Emmerdale.
