Colin Spence says selection problems are having a ‘destructive’ influence on Irvine Meadow’s form. Medda had six players missing through a mixture of injury and unavailability as they went down 1-0 at home to Kilbirnie Ladeside on Saturday. And co-boss Spence says it’s an ongoing issue that makes it difficult to achieve consistency.

He said: “We’re dealing with a lot just now and we’re not getting that fluency – but that comes with chopping and changing teams and not getting the consistency. “We’re not making any excuses but we can’t get naming the same team two weeks in a row which is very destructive. “There’s definitely too many changes at this moment in time but unfortunately there’s not much we can do about it.” Spence has been given a fresh headache with the news that defender Calum Gow has suffered another injury setback.

The centre-half rolled his ankle in training last week and faces three to four weeks on the sidelines. Spence says his players simply have to now focus on getting enough points to guarantee Premier Division football next season.

He added: “I don’t know what the magic number what will be, 49 maybe, but we certainly need a couple more wins that’s for sure, there’s no doubt about that. “We need to find a bit of magic from somewhere because we don’t want the season to peter out. “We’ve got Blantyre and Rob Roy coming up.
