Irvine incinerator owners invited to public meeting

Owners of a controversial incinerator plant in Irvine are being invited to attend a public meeting on their plans.Irvine Community Council are to approach Doveryard Ltd, who are currently building the facility at Oldhall.The plant was given planning permission in 2020 but is still undergoing construction although SEPA, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency have yet to grant an operating licence to the plant.Richard Leonard and Veronika Leibscher from campaign group Irvine Without Incinerators revealed they had recently met company representatives along with community council chairman Chris Pless.Veronika said: “The three directors and two people from the PR company were at the meeting and they brought along a consultant who answered most of the questions.“It was a good meeting in that it was not hostile and it showed we are normal residents trying to take care of the environment.“No one will change their minds - they are still for it and we are against it and we are hoping this plant can be stopped if SEPA do not give a final certificate and Octopus Energy might decide it’s not such a good idea to be associated with something so un-green."“Every candidate at the General Election hustings in June was against it, including our MP Alan Gemmell and we hope he can come up with something.Chris Pless said: “I will email the company from the Community Council to see if they are interested in setting up a town hall meeting.” Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines – sign up to our free daily newsletter here
