A hard-working Lanarkshire mum is using International Women’s Day to highlight how she has paved the way for women working in construction.Heather Philp, from Motherwell, is strategic land manager for Barratt Homes in the West of Scotland.The dedicated mum-of-one juggles her busy home life with her jam-packed role, which she has held for the past six years.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

"I entered the housebuilding industry in early 2008, however I was made redundant due to the recession later that year and re-joined local government."Then, in 2016, I joined Barratt Homes - and I have never looked back."Heather’s day-to-day schedule as strategic land manager is varied and can range from meetings with landowners, Teams calls with planning consultants, appraising new sites and liaising with local authorities.With every day so different, Heather has had to become adaptable and be able to hone in on her relationship skills.Working a complementary role alongside the Land team allows her to work independently within the division, while supporting the wider team.She said: “Working in Strategic Land is about working with people.
