A popular tutor and outdoor education expert is in the running for a prestigious global award that celebrates inspiring women trailblazers.Carol Murdoch has been nominated in the SheInspires Awards and will compete against entrants from Turkey, Denmark, India, Pakistan, South Africa, United States and United Arab Emirates.Carol, founder of Love Outdoor Learning, is in the running for the Women in Digital Award, for her members’ website. The website provides schools and teachers with the tools, resources, ideas, curriculum plans, progression planners and more to help them get outdoors, whether that is into a green space or a concrete jungle. It’ll be a busy few months for Carol, who also offers one-to-one tutoring, through her Carol’s Tutoring business. In November she’ll travel down to Bolton for the awards ceremony to find out if she has won and a week will graduate with a Masters Degree in Learning for Sustainability at Edinburgh University. This is an outstanding achievement for someone who left school at 16 with little qualifications and started her working life as a cleaner.Carol would later work for the Scottish Government before finally becoming a legal secretary at a start-up law firm before pursuing her dream of going to university. After graduating she became a teacher, but realised the profession was “breaking her” and so she quit to start her tutoring business.Carol told the Courier: “Being nominated for a national award is phenomenal and a real recognition of the mark this wee West Lothian business in making in education.“It is a huge privilege and honour to be amongst such well regarded businesses.“Unlike others, we do not have a team, we are a business of one with support from many.
