Fury, universally recognised as the world's leading heavyweight after his breathtaking performance in a contentious draw with WBC chief Deontay Wilder nine months prior, needed to win by any means necessary to set up a lucrative rematch with the latter in February 2020.
In the end the Gypsy King did exactly that, albeit in the most testing of circumstances, having sustained two deep gashes above his right eye during the third round.
Superior ring craft and size ensured the bloody mess impairing his vision wouldn't prevent him from labouring to victory against Wallin.
