The Queen has shared a glimpse into her second home at Balmoral Castle in Scotland as she met with the new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss.

It is the first time in the 96 year old monarch's reign that she has sworn in a new Prime Minister outside of her official residence of Buckingham Palace in London, instead inviting the new PM to make the 1000-mile round trip to her Scottish retreat. The Queen has been facing ongoing mobility issues for the past year, and she could be seen leaning on a walking stick as she shook Liz's hand in front of a blazing fire.

Official images of the meeting showed some of one of Balmoral Castle's sitting rooms, named the Drawing Room, which featured a huge white marble fireplace with a gilded mirror in place above it and ornaments sat atop it.

The room has a green carpet which matches the cushy sage sofas that sat either side of the women, and a large wall-mounted painting could be seen of two men with a horse, that one could presume is a depiction of some of the Queen's royal ancestors. The Queen herself sported a fairly informal attire of a white blouse tucked into a tartan pleated skirt, which she wore with a comfortable cream cardigan and she also sported a patent black handbag on the crook of her arm that held onto the walking stick.
