The SFA have got down to work to make sure Hampden Park is pitch perfect in time for the Viaplay Cup final next month. The National Stadium came in for a barrage of criticism from all four League Cup semi-final participants who took aim at the state of the surface for a showpiece occasion.

SFA chiefs responded and vowed to do their utmost to ensure it was in better nick in time for the Old Firm showdown on February 25 with holders Celtic defending their title against fierce rivals Rangers.

And, with less than four weeks to go, these photos show the LED grow lights which were secured after significant investment from Hampden chiefs. As well as the Viaplay Cup final, Steve Clarke’s Scotland will also be in action in March when they kick off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with Cyprus and Spain due to visit Mount Florida.

In a joint statement released after the criticism earlier this month, the SFA and SPFL said: “The Scottish FA and Scottish Professional Football League have discussed ways in which we can mitigate the ongoing inclement weather to optimise the playing surface for the Viaplay Cup Final next month and forthcoming international matches at Hampden Park.“The inclement weather conditions, allied to the fixture schedule being dictated by a winter World Cup, contributed to the underfoot conditions during two otherwise exciting and entertaining semi-final ties.
