Elton John is well known to have had a strained relationship with his parents throughout his life, which is depicted in his film RocketMan.The iconic singer was raised as an only child in a council property in Pinner, Middlesex by his maternal parents after his mother, Sheila Eileen, and father, Stanley Dwight divorced when he was 14.The 77-year-old has previously revealed that his bond with his dad was particularly painful as he was very disinterested in his son's musical talents and never once expressed pride in his success or attended any of his shows.
Writing in his autobiography, Me, Elton confessed that he had spent his whole career "trying to show my father what I'm made of".He later told the BBC: "It's crazy, but I just wanted his approval.
I'm still trying to prove to him that what I do is fine - and he's been dead for almost 30 years."Stanley passed away from heart disease in 1991.
However, Elton's relationship with his mother was also not the best.He previously revealed that his mum had brutally beat him when he was a baby in an attempt to potty train him.
