Coronation Street fans were stunned to see Lydia push Adam Barlow from a balcony on Monday. Adam’s vengeful ex-girlfriend (played by Rebecca Ryan) had been tormenting him for weeks before a showdown saw her slap Adam and shove him over the railings.
Adam (Sam Robertson) toppled to the floor and was rushed to hospital covered in blood. Viewers have been left in suspense until tonight, when doctors tell Ken and Daniel that Adam has suffered a bleed behind the eye and needs an operation to save his sight.
Could Adam be left permanently blind? We uncover what his injury could mean… What is a bleeding eye? Otherwise known as a subconjunctival haemorrhage (what a mouthful), bleeding inside the eye can cause a tiny speck of redness or a big area of red blood.
It might be frightening to look at, but the patch of bright red blood on the white part of your eye is - usually - harmless, caused by a broken blood vessel. The condition is usually a result of injury to the eye, but there are other causes like forceful sneezing or coughing, irritation of the iris (the coloured part of the eye), high blood pressure, heavy lifting and even constipation.
