Amid their exciting move from Kensington Palace Windsor, royal author Katie Nicholl reflected on the Cambridge family's adoration for all things outdoors, telling OK!
that they’re "countryside people, never happier than when wearing muddy boots and a waxed jacket". In turn, this love of the great outdoors is also reflected in the holidays that William and Kate choose for their young family, with Katie also giving us a glimpse into the children's holidays with grandparents King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. "They’ve shunned lavish holidays in recent years for bucket and space breaks on the English coast, particularly Norfolk," Katie explains. "When they go to Balmoral, it’s picnics and long walks and playing hide and seek in and around Grandpa Charles’ favourite bothy near Birkhall – Charles and Camilla’s home on the Balmoral estate." So it seems as though a blue-skies and green grass lifestyle in Windsor is very on-brand for the family of five. "For them to be able to raise their family in the security and natural beauty of Windsor Great Park is everything they could have wanted," she adds.
Kate and William have also been attempting to assist in helping their children to settle in at their new schools in Windsor, as well as resuming with their royal duties following the death of William’s beloved grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, who passed away on 8 September.
But according to Katie, who has just published The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy And The Future Of The Crown, they have the "royal juggle" down to a T, allowing them the best of both worlds. "They try to schedule royal engagements as much as they can around George and Charlotte’s schedules – football practice and gymnastics clubs and playdates with.
